What is the difference in brands of belts?  Most belts out there are made of a material called Chloroprene or Neoprene.  This allows the belt to be flexible with a nylon wrap around them.  Bestorq belts are made from a different “recipe” with a material called EPDM which is much more durable.  You can actually feel the difference because it’s a completely different material.  Bestorq belts made from EPDM are made for a much higher temperature range, causing less wear and are more forgiving.  A Chloroprene made belt also takes 8-12% energy from the motor just to turn around the motor.  Using EPDM made belts it takes only 3% which uses much less energy causing significant energy savings.  All this data has been certified by the University of Nebraska.

Bestorq Belt’s Dan Weaver covers some of the critical issues impacting belt failure in this training series which Nevada Cooler Pad attended.

Things that cause a belt to fail:  99% of the time it is due to the belt not being tensioned correctly.  As we all know, rubber and high heat conditions do not work well together.  Over or under tensioned belts create abnormal heat conditions and can over amp the motor and wear out the bearings among other things.  Worn out pulleys also diminish the life of the belt drastically and should be inspected.  Adjustable shelves (or pulleys as some call them) can be utilized to adjust for different brand belts to prevent wear-n-tear.  Misalignment can also cause diminished belt life and overheating.  We suggest using a straight edge.  A belt should also not rest entirely on the bottom of the sheave.  Nevada Cooler Pads offers sheave gauges to help with proper seating of the belt.  Never mix different manufacturers belts on the same applications (i.e. double groove pulley).  This can cause one belt to do most of the work while the other belt is not keeping up.  Using the proper belt on the specific pulley is important.  Nevada Cooler Pad can help you pick the right belt such as a cogged belt or non-cogged belt for each application.  Ambient temperature drastically affects the life of the belt.   If the belt is more than 30 degrees above the ambient temperature then you will have problems.  You can test this by using a laser temperature gauge.  Let us show you how.
